Governors

Our Governing Board has three core functions.
These are to:
1. Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
2. Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
3.  Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

We do this in meetings which we hold monthly. Our governing body comprises:
• Headteacher
• 3 Parent Governors
• 1 Local Authority Governor
• 1 Staff Governor
• 9 Co-opted Governors

The Governors are all either elected or appointed for a four year term according to our Instrument of Government, which is approved by the Local Authority (West Berkshire), in order to ensure we have a cross section of opinions and experience. We all have the primary aim of providing an outstanding education to the children of Birch Copse.

The Full Governing Board meets monthly, with the exception of August and December. We also have a Governor Pay and Performance Panel which meets termly.

Throughout the year  training courses and forums are arranged by the Local Authority, we also have access to many online tools so that we are up to date with current policy and legislation.
